There are healthy and safety regulations governing the utilization of lift trucks. Any huge equipment, like a lift truck, is potentially dangerous and should be operated safely. The regulations and rules state that the driver needs to conduct daily checks on the forklift and more thorough checks on a weekly basis and every month. The following inspections must be performed on the forklift:
Lift Truck Brakes - brakes on lift trucks are important features which must be double and triple checked. A brake check is done with various pressures and pedal heights to determine the sensitivity of the brakes. The brake lights must be inspected at the same time.
The Tires - the tires are also important to the safe performance of the truck and to the braking system. All the tires should be checked correctly to make sure they are inflated to the proper pressure and that there are no punctures in the tires.
Controller - To know whether the system is in good working condition, the lift truck controller system has to be checked by operating the forks and the release mechanism. Any indication of issues should immediately reported and tended to. The forklift must not be utilized until the controller system has been repaired.
Steering Wheel - In order to make sure that the turning of the wheel is right, the operator should check the lift truck steering wheel. Forklift safety depends on the steering wheel responding well and working accurately. There are a variety of checks that could be done to determine steering wheel performance.
Engine Oil - the engine oil has to be checked by removing the dip stick from the lift truck engine. The dipstick would show both the oil color and the oil level. The oil should be refilled if the level is too low. If the colour is off, there might be contamination happening.
Fire Extinguisher - all forklift trucks are required to be outfitted with a fire extinguisher. The extinguisher needs to be checked to ensure it will work properly in case of a fire. Different kinds of fire extinguisher should be inspected in certain ways. For example, a dry chemical extinguisher needs to be shaken.
