Rough terrain lift trucks are now common on nearly all construction sites. Rough terrain machinery could handle materials of each type from roof beams to plywood stacks to concrete blocks. Some of the bigger models use a telescoping boom which has lift capacities of as much as 10,000 lbs. or 4540 kg. These models often have vertical reaches up to 12 meters or 40 feet with forward reaches of 25 feet or 7 meters, even more. Typically, these units can catch through openings as low as 8 feet or 2 meters high, in an effort to gain access to the interior of a structures and feature a low-profile design. Different configurations are available like 4 and 2 wheel steering, as well as 4 wheel crab steering, meaning all wheels can be turned in the same direction.
