In 1949, the Liebherr family business was created by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his inexpensive and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this invention that the foundation of the company flourished under. Today, The Liebherr company has grown to become one of the leading manufacturers within the world of construction machinery. The company has also gained the reputation of being the acknowledged provider of user-oriented technically innovative services and products in different fields. The company has presently become a "Group" working in every continent with more than 130 companies and over 35,000 workers all over the globe.
The Liebherr Group has been divided into various company units in order to guarantee a manageable operating size. These separate units operate independently. This set up enables the business the ability to stay in tune with global competition and be flexible to market signals. As well, having so many individual company units also ensures customer proximity and keeps customer service operating at an optimum level.
The divisional control companies handle the operative management of the sales companies and the production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group currently has ten different product divisions.
Liebherr Group's holding company is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is situated in Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by members of the Liebherr family. Presently, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr. Since 2012, some of the active individual divisions have been represented by 3rd generation members of the family such as: Jan Liebherr, Sophie Albrecht, Stefanie Wohlfarth and Patricia Ruf. These family members have been working hard together to be able to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings across the world.
Hans Liebherr began to build his business in 1949, in a tiny town known as Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, now supports amongst Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They employ more than 1400 individuals in that particular workforce and could average a yearly output of roughly 2800 wheeled excavators.
