Different Types of Aerial Lift

Aerial lifts are a specialized kind of heavy equipment that allows employees to be raised into the air. These machinery could be used to perform maintenance and repairs in areas that are high up in the air like on roofs, near street-light fixtures and power lines. Similar to nearly all tools, there are different types of aerial lifts which can be used to perform a variety of tasks. For the utmost safety, each and every type of different type of machine needs right training and specific certification prior to using it.

Scissor Lifts

Scissor lifts are usually referred to as Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic kind of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform which is raised up using pneumatic power and are mainly utilized for indoor applications. Usually, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When completely compressed, these scissor lifts are capable of being driven like large carts. Normally, when the platform is extended, they could not be driven for safety reasons. Before anyone can use these tools, employees should be certified as operators.

Boom Lifts

Compared to a scissor lift, boom lifts are much more complex kind of aerial lift machinery. A boom lift has a wide base in order to keep the lift anchored. It utilizes a jointed arm which has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box situated in the bucket that allows the operator to raise and lower the bucket. As the arm of the boom is jointed, it could move from side to side too. The boom lift resembles a tail of a metal scorpion. Traditionally, it is utilized in outdoor construction applications. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to run than scissor lifts, hence, operators must be certified individually for these kinds of lifts.
