Lift Truck Battery Safety

Emergency Eyewash Station
An emergency eyewash post must be situated near the charging place. The route to the station must not be blocked and an injured worker should be able to go to the eyewash station from the charging area within 10 seconds without running.
Charger Safety
The charger must be the same amperage as the battery. It must be turned off while the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
When in the vicinity of a battery and charging area, open fire are not allowed. Do not allow things like for instance lighters or matches to be utilized while somebody is checking the battery fluid levels.
Ventilation
The battery charging place also has to be correctly ventilated. The recharging process could release fumes. These gases are both explosive and toxic.
